“Guggenheim’s culture fosters an entrepreneurial environment.”
Curry, Director & Equity Research Analyst, discusses his career trajectory at Guggenheim and why entrepreneurship is essential for success in his research role.I am a Director within Guggenheim Securities Equity Research Department covering media stocks as an equity research analyst. In my role I work with Guggenheim’s senior media analyst Michael Morris, and our team analyzes media and internet stocks to make recommendations to our institutional clients.
A typical day as an analyst involves deep-dive research and maintaining complex financial models, writing, and disseminating reports – our outlook and thoughts on the company – and spending time on the phone with clients, our coverage companies, and industry contacts discussing both specific media stocks and the macro media ecosystem.
Prior to joining Guggenheim in 2013, I worked covering media stocks at a different firm, where I developed a strong research foundation — a deep understanding of the media industry, a commitment to excellence and client service, and rigorous attention to detail. I joined my manager at Guggenheim to assist in building out the firm’s equity research depth in the Telecom, Media, and Technology (TMT) vertical.
I was able to flourish and accelerate at Guggenheim. The equity research platform at Guggenheim provided scale, opened new opportunities, and seasoned my skills in ways that allowed me to transition into an analyst role. Guggenheim’s culture fosters an entrepreneurial environment. Management and Guggenheim’s platform gave me the tools and support required to move from an associate to analyst role and build out my own franchise.
While many colleagues who work directly with me are aware I am a golfer, many will be surprised to know I have hit a hole-in-one. It is definitely the highlight of my 26 years on the links. I will be the first to admit that a hole-in-one is a combination of skill and luck, but there is nothing wrong with a little luck occasionally.
