"The opportunities provided by the Firm at every level has exceeded my expectations."

Kristen, Vice President, discussses her career path at Guggenehim and the best advice she ever received.
Please describe your role at the firm.

I am a Vice President on the Industrials Investment Banking team at Guggenheim Securities. Our group advises clients across a variety of industry sub-verticals on topics such as buy-side and sell-side M&A, capital raising, and other strategic alternatives. My responsibilities include analyzing and executing transactions, creating pitchbooks for business development, acting as a day-to-day point of contact for clients, and coordinating project workstreams.

Tell us about your career path and journey at Guggenheim.

I started my career as an analyst with Guggenheim Investments, working at GS Gamma Advisors, an agency mortgage-backed securities-focused hedge fund. After five years, I decided to pursue my MBA to make the pivot into investment banking. When deciding which bank to join, I ultimately decided to stay at Guggenheim because of the bank’s strong client relationships, team-oriented culture, and opportunities for career growth and development. Over the past three years, the camaraderie among colleagues and the opportunities provided by the firm at every level has continued to exceed any expectations I had prior to joining.

What is the most valuable lesson you learned from your mentors?

I’ve been fortunate to have many mentors who have been instrumental in progressing my career. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned from my mentors is that the key to a long, successful career is being genuine and a person you would want to work with. Standing up for what you believe in, being a good person, and spending time to develop relationships with others will pay dividends in the long term. People want to work with people who they can count on, and opportunities will come when you have a reputation of being trustworthy and reliable.

What is the best career advice you have received?

Be open to all experiences and “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Maintain your intellectual curiosity and positive attitude when taking on new opportunities. By approaching every situation as an opportunity to learn, we grow in ways we never knew we could.

What is something you like to do in your spare time?

In my free time, I like to go horseback riding. Before I started in banking, I went on an eight-day safari on horseback in Botswana, which was a lifelong dream of mine and one of my favorite experiences.
